Samsung in Europe on the downside

Samsung suffered heavy losses in sales in Europe in the past quarter. The big beneficiary is the Android competitor Xiaomi, which was able to significantly reduce the gap to the market leader.

Samsung has to fear for its dominance on the European smartphone market: As current figures from “Counterpoint Research” show, the manufacturer achieved a market share of 30.4 percent in the past quarter. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, this means a minus of 16 percent. Even compared to the second quarter of 2021, the Galaxy makers have to accept a decline of six percent.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, emerges as the largest competitor in Europe: The Chinese manufacturer achieved a market share of 23.6 percent in the third quarter of the current year and is therefore only around seven percent behind Samsung. The comparison of the Xiaomi numbers with the previous year is particularly impressive: the smartphone manufacturer was able to gain a full 51 percent here.

The iPhone makers at Apple can also look back on a successful quarter: Compared to the previous quarter, they increased by five percent, year-on-year it is 4.5 percent. In fourth place in the ranking is Oppo, which even more than doubled its sales in a year-on-year comparison and thus accounted for 10.1 percent of smartphone sales in Europe in the past quarter.

It shows: Samsung’s long-standing supremacy is beginning to crumble – the competition is making up more and more ground in sales. The Korean manufacturer has high hopes for the Galaxy S22 series in the next year. As current data from a licensing authority show, however, buyers could face a bitter hardware disappointment with at least two models .
