Vodafone, Qualcomm and Thales have joined forces to demonstrate a working smartphone equipped with iSIM – a new technology that allows you to merge a SIM card with the phone’s processor. Unlike eSIM technology, it does not need an additional integrated circuit and does not take up space in the housing.

The new solution increases the efficiency of the device and its memory capacity, and also guarantees incomparably better integration with the system and greater security. This technology will undoubtedly be of great importance in the future, as Vodafone’s Chief Commercial Officer Alex Froment-Curtil said:”Our goal is to create a world where every device connects seamlessly to each other and where the customer is in complete control. ISIM, combined with our remote management platform, represents a big step in this direction by allowing devices to connect without a physical SIM card or This makes multi-site connectivity – the ‘Internet of Things’ connected world concept a reality. This will allow our customers to enjoy the ease of using multiple accounts on a single device and, from an operator’s point of view, help eliminate the need for separate SIM cards and additional plastic is thus consumed. We will continue to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies and Thales to develop further applications of this technology and accelerate its commercialization . “

The presentation of the iSIM solution took place in Europe. It illustrates the commercial readiness of the technology and its efficiency in working on existing infrastructure, taking advantage of the advanced capabilities of the Vodafone network. The demonstration on the Vodafone network used a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G phone powered by the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, which has a built-in Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit that supports the Thales iSIM card. The technology was validated in Samsung R&D laboratories using Vodafone’s advanced remote management platform.
