The successor to last year’s affordable and popular mid-range mobile OnePlus Nord CE has just been unveiled. OnePlus Nord CE 2 has received several improvements, including a brighter camera, better performance and faster charging.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 looks like a better buy
A look at specifications shows that OnePlus has given Nord CE 2 several improvements over last year’s model. You will still find a 6.4 inch AMOLED screen with 90 Hz, 5G, 4,500 mAh battery, 3.5 mm jack and a thin design. However, there is also a lot of new to be found in the sequel. Mediatek Dimensity has both 5G and Wi-Fi 6 built-in.
The Snapdragon chipset has been replaced with the MediaTek Dimensity 900, which has significantly better performance. This is not the first time we see a OnePlus phone with the Mediatek chipset – OnePlus Nord 2 was the first and still impresses us with its fast performance.
The charging of Nord CE 2 has also been overhauled – and overtakes most much more expensive flagship phones. OnePlus Nord CE 2 has in fact got a new SUPERVOOC 65W charge, which pulls the 4,500 mAh battery from 0-100 percent in just 32 minutes. After 15 minutes, there is enough power for a full day.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 comes with OxygenOS 11, which is based on Android 11. It will be updated to Android 12 later this year. OnePlus states that it will receive two years of updates to the Android system. Depending on how fast they are with the updates, it is Android 12 and 13 or Android 12, 13 and 14. OnePlus Nord CE 2 gets three years of security updates.
Improved camera
The new Nord CE 2 seems to have a better camera than last year’s model. The 64 megapixel main sensor has become brighter, which should make it better for photography and video in low light. The ultra-wide-angle camera has the same overhaul and sticks to the same 8 megapixels.
Finally, there is a 2 megapixel macro camera. And honestly, we have not had very good experience with these small macro cameras, but maybe OnePlus surprises us positively.
