Exercise and mental activity can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease

According to a new study, adopting a healthy lifestyle can protect against dementia (a mental illness that results in memory loss).

According to researchers, men and women who adopt a healthy lifestyle not only live longer but are also protected from Alzheimer’s or dementias.

Dr Claudian Dahana, who led the study, said that eating vegetables, berries, whole grains, and minimally fried foods, exercising regularly, and keeping oneself mentally active can prevent Alzheimer’s disease or mental retardation.

He said that reading books, visiting museums and crossword puzzles or other such mental activities are very useful for staying mentally active.

Dr. Claudian Dahana Rush is an assistant professor of internal medicine at the Institute of Healthy Aging Chicago (USA).
