Microplastics have been discovered in breast milk for the first time by Italian researchers. This is a worrying discovery because it might have unidentified health implications on infants.
The same Italian team discovered microplastic in placentas in 2020. These minute plastic fragments have already been discovered in human blood, faeces, and lungs by other investigations. However, the team is concerned by the study’s findings because young children are particularly susceptible to chemical pollutants. The findings were published in the scientific journal Polymers and covered by The Guardian newspaper on Friday. This is especially true when you take into account previous placenta discoveries.
