Lists of prisoners held by each nation were exchanged, according to a different statement made by the Foreign Office. The lists were simultaneously exchanged in accordance with the 2008 Consular Access Agreement, a Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement. According to the agreement, on January 1 and July 1 of each year, the two nations exchange lists of the prisoners held in each other’s custody.
The Foreign Office says that a list of 705 Indian prisoners being held in Pakistan has been sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The list includes 51 civilians and 654 fishermen.
However, the list of 434 Pakistani prisoners in India, including 339 civilian detainees and 95 fishermen, was provided by the Indian government.
The spokesperson for the Foreign Office says that Pakistan has also asked for the early release and return of 94 fishermen and 51 civilian prisoners who have already served their sentences and whose nationality has been confirmed.
Both countries should stop.
