A new study has warned that a machine used to dry nail polish can cause cancer.
Researchers at the University of California San Diego found in a study that the use of nail polish dryer can cause the loss of human cells and cancer-causing changes in the cells.
According to experts, despite being extremely harmful to health, these ultraviolet nail lamps are sold without thinking about the potential risks.
Lidmal Alexandrov, professor of bioengineering and cellular and molecular medicine at the university, said that these devices are sold as safe that there is nothing to worry about, but no one has yet studied these devices and the human cells affected by them.
Professor Alexidroff and his colleagues observed reports published in several medical journals that people who regularly do gel manicure, such as women participating in beauty contests or beauticians, are now suffering from specific finger cancer.
He said that the research found that the information about what these devices were doing to human cells was zero.
Ultraviolet rays whose wavelengths are smaller than the wavelength of visible light are further divided into three types in terms of wavelength: UVA, UVB and UVC.
Generally, bulbs fitted to UV nail lamps emit wavelength rays between 340 and 395 nanometers.
UVA, the longest wavelength type of ultraviolet rays, has already been confirmed to cause skin cancer.
In the research, the scientists used cells taken from mice with two types of human cells.
These cells were beamed in two different ways under a UV nail lamp. In one method, intense rays were inserted, while in another method, the cells were kept in the rays for a certain period of time after a long period of time.
In the first method, a type of cells kept in petri dishes was kept in the radiation for 20 minutes, then removed from the lamp for an hour so that they could restore themselves or return to the original shape and once again kept in the rays for 20 minutes, while in the second method the cells were kept under the machine for 20 minutes daily for three days.
The researchers found that a 20-minute session caused 20 to 30 percent of cell deaths, compared to 65 to 70 percent of cell deaths over a 20-minute period for three consecutive days.
