Google has entered into a partnership with iFixit for the Pixel phones. The goal is to make it easier for Pixel owners to repair smartphones. For this purpose, original spare parts from the Pixel 2 to the Pixel 6 Pro can be bought from them. . Batteries, displays, cameras and more can be ordered in the future.
Google: Original spare parts for Pixel phones
Google wants to make it easier for Pixel smartphone owners to get spare parts and carry out repairs themselves. In this context, the group has now announced a partnership with iFixit . The repair experts’ iFixit kits should provide the “entire range of spare parts” for almost all Pixel phones. The original spare parts can also be ordered individually, explains Google.
Batteries, displays and cameras are mentioned explicitly, along with suitable tools . The repair kits should be available for all models from the Pixel 2. Google is also committed to offering replacement parts for future models, such as the Pixel 6a .
By the end of 2022, original spare parts for Pixel phones will be available in Germany and other countries where Google smartphones are officially available. This includes Great Britain, Canada, Australia and the USA (source: press release).
People can contact the police, fire brigade and ambulance, even when the screen is locked via a Pixel phone.
Now whether you are in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or staying in the United States, you can contact the local police, fire brigade and ambulance even if the Google Pixel phone is locked.
Google has dubbed it the Fast Emergency Dialer (FED). The first practical example of this was introduced by Google Pixel in its emergency app but now it has been made a part of Pixel phone. It is specially designed for the busiest people traveling internationally.
According to 9to5Google, even if the phone is locked, the emergency call button can be used to call the police, fire brigade and medical help. In addition, you can contact the power menu by opening the phone anyway, but the power button also depends on the model of which Google Pixel you have.
Pixel 5 holders can access the FED by pressing the power button for five seconds and tap on Emergency. Or you can contact the slider. On the other hand, thanks to the Google Pixel 6 and Pro 12 Android 12, you can reach the emergency by pressing the power and volume up buttons together.
According to Google Support, this facility is for the whole world and wherever you make an emergency contact, it will dial the number according to the country
The two upcoming smartphones are unlikely to stand out in the family photo: they are the exact copies of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
After the successes of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google is expected the turn with its Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Based on the first 3D renderings produced by OnLeaks , in terms of design, the American giant is not going to upset things: its next smartphones would look a lot like the current ones. The future generation would notably retain the horizontal bar at the rear in which the sensors are housed.
Two smartphones shaped from the same mold Both smartphones are pictured with a selfie camera located at the top and center of the display. As with current models, the rear unit would house two sensors in the case of the Google Pixel 7, three in that of the Google Pixel 7 Pro.
The lower edge of the smartphone houses the two stereo speakers and the USB Type-C charging port, while the left edge has the slot for the SIM cards and the right the volume and power buttons .
The first renders and the video are for the Google Pixel 7 Pro, the sequel for the Pixel 7. You can find many more on the source sites.
A few millimeters of difference Specifically, the Pixel 7 would have a 6.2 or 6.4-inch screen and dimensions of 155.6mm x 73.1mm x 8.7mm (11.4mm taking into account the thickness of the photo block ). For comparison, the Pixel 6 measures 158.8 x 74.8 x 8.9mm.
The Pixel 7 Pro would display slightly larger measurements, namely 163 x 76.6 x 8.7 mm, and an OLED screen of 6.7 or 6.8 inches. The Pixel 6 Pro has dimensions of 163.9 x 75.8 x 8.9mm.
The technical characteristics of smartphones are very uncertain at the moment. In principle, these versions will benefit from the second generation of Google Tensor SoCs .
There is no official release date for these Pixel 7s yet, but they will probably land in September 2022. Before that date, Google would launch its Pixel 6a , expected in May. In addition, be aware that the company is also working on a folding Google Pixel .
Even die-hard Pixel fans are slowly getting angry: After Google already screwed up Android updates for the Pixel 6 (Pro), new problems with the Google Photos app on the cell phones have now surfaced. A supposedly magical eraser is to blame.
Pixel 6 update crashes Google Photos
Google again has software problems with its flagship phones Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. After the December update caused problems – and was even withdrawn in the meantime – cell phones are now having problems with an update for Google Photos . The app reportedly crashes as soon as the Magic Eraser tool is opened (source: Android Poilce ).
With the magic eraser it should actually be possible to easily remove annoying objects from photos. Sometimes it works surprisingly well, but not always. On the Pixel 6 (Pro) , however, the tool cannot even be opened after an update. There were already problems in connection with the “Magic Eraser” in November when Google meanwhile removed the tool from the new Pixel phones.
A bugfix for the new problem has not yet been released. Users who have not yet installed the latest version of Google Photos should prevent the update to be on the safe side . To do this, the app must be called up in the Play Store and the auto-update function must be deactivated there.
Google with Pixel 6 update problems
After the December update arrived on the Pixel 6 (Pro) with a considerable delay , the next Android update also caused difficulties. The January update was initially only distributed among older Pixel phones, but has now also arrived on the new Google phones.
Some Pixel 6 owners have also recently experienced how dangerous a small update can be. Before the January update, it was sometimes not possible to make an emergency call if Microsoft Teams was installed on the smartphone.
Is the Google Pixel 6 sufficient or should you go straight for the Pixel 6 Pro? We show you what the smartphones can do and compare the devices with each other.
Google Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro? Here we show you the technical similarities and the differences between the two top smartphones from Google. If, on the other hand, you are looking for precise measurement data and practical impressions, you should visit our detailed tests.
The Pixel 6 cameras
The sensor of the main camera should be able to capture 150 percent more light than its predecessors. The maximum resolution is 50 megapixels (MPixels). Both models also offer an ultra wide-angle lens with 12 MPixel. The other camera features show the first differences between the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, because only the Pro model has been given a telephoto lens with optical zoom. The models also differ when it comes to the front camera, but not quite as clearly: The Pixel 6 snaps photos with a maximum of 8 MPixel, the 6 Pro with 11.1 MPixel. In addition, the Pro model has a slightly larger detection angle, which should be particularly noticeable for group photos.
The real highlight is not necessarily the camera hardware, but the software for image optimization – and here both smartphones are equally equipped. The range of functions includes, among other things, a portrait, panorama and night vision mode, a sharpener, which should get more out of the picture even in poor lighting conditions, and an eraser, which automatically removes objects or people from the picture. The motion mode, which is intended for dynamic sports photos, also sounds exciting.
More power and longer service The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also have the in-house Tensor chip in common, with which the devices run 80 percent faster than the Pixel 5 according to Google. The test shows that the Pixel phones do not set new records, but they are right at the top join the Android ranks. Thanks to the Tensor SoC, the battery should also have more power – but this was not confirmed in the test. The batteries are okay overall, but they don’t set-top values compared to other Android smartphones.
The rest of the hardware is more or less standard in the current upper and high-end class: The Pixel 6 is available with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The Pixel 6 Pro, on the other hand, gets a whopping 12 GB of RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB of internal memory. The front and back are made of Gorilla Glass. The actual frame of the Pixel 6 gets a matte finish, while the Pixel 6 Pro gets a glossy finish.
Other features include WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, a fingerprint sensor under the display, NFC as well as 5G and Google Cast. The smartphones do not offer a jack connection. The devices can be operated via eSIM and a nano SIM card (dual SIM function).
3 years Android upgrades, 5 years support
It is also interesting that Google deviates from the well-known 2-year update principle. The Pixel 6 models should now receive three years of Android upgrades and five years of security updates. This is a clear advantage compared to the Android competition, because support usually ends after two years, and cheap smartphones often don’t even get an update at all, let alone an upgrade to a new Android version. It remains to be seen whether other manufacturers will follow suit.
Google has recently launched Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with big claims. However, these smartphones have disappointed owners of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. These Pixel owners experienced problem. Google has promised to fix those problem. Let us wait and see how much they take to fix those problems.
Google admits: Pixel 6 smartphones don’t reach 30 watts
Most Android smartphones can be fully charged in no time. Popular brands are shipping fastest chargers with their smartphones.
Pixel 6 smartphones owners were disappointed and angered to know that their 30 watt chargers cannot utilize the full capacity.
Google tries to explain in detail in a post that why the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro cannot be charged so quickly. In this post Google admits that the maximum charging power of the Pixel 6 is 21 watts and the Pixel 6 Pro is 23 watts per cable. However, they said in the post ‘How charging works on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro that they slow down charging when it reaches 80%.
Google has caused the problems itself. Although they state that they support a 30-watt fast charge function in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, they could not achieve this. It is even correctly stated that it takes 30 minutes to reach 50 percent charging capacity. But then the charging speed collapses so massively that it takes another 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach the remaining 50 percent.
Google Pixel 6 Pro in the test: a smartphone that makes my life easier
You can’t change anything about that, because the battery is installed as it is installed. In the end, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also charge 50 percent in 30 minutes. But the 30 watts have aroused expectations that cannot be met and Google is now admitting.
