Taking a nap during the day is good for children’s and adults’ mental health.

In fact, having a routine of taking a nap in the afternoon aids preschoolers up to the age of five in developing their reading skills.
This was revealed in a study conducted in Australia .
Researchers haven’t spoken much about the connection between sleep, memory growth, and children’s reading skills.
However, preliminary data from Macquarie University research suggests that napping can aid 5-year-olds in understanding word pronunciation, which can aid in future academic endeavors.
Children who were not yet in school were included in the study, and it was discovered that a nap would aid with word recognition and word pronunciation learning.
A short nap improves children’s ability to use the details of a new task, the researchers said.
Researchers found that children’s brain functions in understanding word pronunciation are positively impacted by afternoon naps, and they can use this understanding to read words they are unfamiliar with.
The study involved 32 children aged 3 to 5 years and helped them to get a good night’s sleep.
Each child participated in 7 sessions of 2 to 4 weeks.
Children who nap reportedly perform better on learning tasks and can read words they are unfamiliar with if naps aid in knowing how to pronounce words.
They admitted that he was unable to analyze the various impacts of sleep because the study was carried out in a daycare facility rather than a laboratory.
This will be the subject of further research in the future.
The results of the study were published in the medical journal called Journal of Child Development.
